Bringing Balance
A carousel of planters in the shop, a carousel of thoughts. šæ
Iāve been thinking a lot lately about the ways to detect when summer hits and makes us spin in a tizzy, and how do we tell if itās āGone too farā and to call in balance.
My wise therapist gave me some wonderful advice this week, and I wanted to share it with you here.
Food - Water - Sleep
Are you eating? (You could take this further and ask if you are presently eating)
Are you drinking water and hydrating your body enough?
Are you sleeping well both duration & quality?
If any of those are awry, that is a significant sign to slow it down and grab more balance. Detecting it sooner than later.
I am someone who LOVES self-care, nature hikes, and slow-moving time to ponder and contemplate life, but in summer with the kiddos home and work busier than ever, how do we still cling to these practices that ground us in light of the summer chaos?
My therapistās advice: We still do them, but cut them a bit shorter.
I love to meditate for 20-30 min per day. Maybe this week it looks more like 10. I love to do yoga for an hour.
Maybe this week it looks more like getting my kiddos to bust out their mats too, and doing some yoga together.
Maybe my 3-mile nature hikes (Just for the time being) can be whittled down to a mile or two.
Last summer I got really mentally ill towards August. Me and my family went through rounds of getting COVID-19, and life was whirling by faster than I could breathe. I didnāt slow it down, I skipped over all my grounding rhythms, and the person I became scared me.
Awareness is the most beautiful tool, truly. This year I have healing modalities in place, and although the timing of them may not be as luxurious as in winter, they are a non-negotiable to me now. They are too important!
Just know you have the power to slow your life down even if that means taking a 5-minute break laying in the sun on your childrenās trampoline. You can, you have permission, and you owe it to your beautiful self š§”
Sending love!
